Bhubaneswar, Sep 7 (IANS) State-run National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO) Wednesday said it will sponsor the education of about 250 tribal children living in the vicinity of its project in Orissa’s Koraput district.

The project is an initiative of NALCO Foundation, the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) arm, the firm’s chairman-cum- managing director B.L. Bagra told IANS.

The children will be brought to Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) at Bhubaneswar, where they will be imparted quality education from the current academic session, he said.

The institute is home to over 15,000 tribal children. It provides accomodation, food, healthcare and education from the kindergarten to post-graduation stage to tribals free of cost, with job assurance after completion of education and vocational training.

NALCO will sign an agreement with KISS and contribute to its corpus fund.

The company is India’s third largest aluminium maker. It has been allocating two percent of its net profit every year for CSR activities. Accordingly, Rs.21.38 crore has been earmarked for the 2011-12 fiscal, Bagra said.
