Orissa Government to set up 1028 Community Health Centers, Sub-divisional hospitals by 2012

Bhubaneswar: Ensure effective communication in professionalized manner for success of health campaigns directed Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik while presiding over Governing Body Meeting of Odisha State Health & Family Welfare Society held in secretariat conference hall today afternoon wherein Secretary Health & Family Welfare Smt. Anu Garg outlined the topics for discussion.

Patnaik maintained that health, nutrition and sanitation interventions of Govt are all interrelated and complementary to each other. So integrated Information, Education and Communication ( IEC)  activities should be undertaken in repeated manner for success of theses programmes. Sri Patnaik directed the personnel engaged in Center of Excellence operating under State Institute of Health & Family Welfare to develop professionalized strategies in this direction. It has been decided in the meeting that new Cath-Lab set up in Capital Hospital will be funded under state budget.

The New Born Corners will be established in Community Health Centers and Sub-divisional hospitals for instant care of new born infants.  Target has been fixed to establish 1028 such units by end of 2012. Available data shows till September of current year, 452 units have been set up. Chief Secretary has advised to adopt campaign approach to operationalize rest 576 units.  It has also been decided that bi-cycles will be supplied to ASHAs through Gaon Kalyan Samities ( GKS).

The Hand Washing Campaign will be included in regular IEC activities. The department  has  been directed  to carry on this work with committed efforts so as to change the behavior and habits of children. Additional Mobile Health Units at least two for each block will be provided to KBK and other tribal blocks and Health camps will be organized in each assembly constituency under Biju Gramina Swasthya Sibira programme.

Janani Express programme has been widely accepted by people and it has been instrumental in saving the life of mother and child in many cases.

As such, it has been decided to engage 48 more Janani expresses taking the total number to 355. Additional 13 Maternity Waiting Homes have also been approved for difficult and inaccessible areas. Review of the utilization of funds available for 2011-12 shows Rs.  17,570.66 lakhs have been utilized till September, 2011 which is around 39% of the total available funds.

Chief Secretary has directed the Department to boost up the utilization of funds and go above Rs.500 cr. of expenditure. Secretary Health & Family Welfare Smt. Anu Garg, Secretary Women & Child Development Smt.Arati Ahuja , Director, NHRM Sri Pramod Meherda and other members of the  society participated in discussions.
